Social Security and Medicare
I am saddened by the lack of caring by the government and states for seniors.
There are SO MANY on the brink of homelessness at all times.
One woman I know and help it takes her entire social security to pay her rent. The food she has comes from the state card the helps seniors. She makes just over the limit for medical or food stamps, but rents are high in california.
She is healthy luckily but can’t make repairs on her mobile home or even afford insurance. She is legally blind and cannot drive. She is unable to stand in line at food banks for food.
We take her to the store to buy groceries and supplement her food. She gets meals on wheels, but there is no fresh food there so we try to help as much as possible and provide food for her cat.
There are waiting lists for subsidized apartments for seniors that are years out. She doesn’t have enough for a nursing or assisted living facility. If her rent for her lot gets much higher it is going up 95 dollars this year, this is an average. She will not be able to afford to live in her home and will be out on the street.
2.5 % is not enough – the average monthly amounts need a large increase across the board and the cola increased. On top of that medicare goes up each year and eats into any increase received.
WHY DO PEOPLE NOT CARE ABOUT THE ELDERLY WHO ARE ALONE AND IN NEED.
